The Thomas Jefferson Mediation Program gives students the opportunity to participate directly in the resolution of community disputes. Mediation in the legal community continues to be a growth industry and Thomas Jefferson School of Law has been a community leader in immersing students in the art of conflict resolution through this clinical program.
Students receive intensive training before they make their services available to clients, or disputants, at the South Bay and El Cajon Small Claims Courts. As mediators, the students work hard and apply the communication, listening and facilitation skills they’ve acquired in an effort to help disputants better understand their own and their adversary’s situation.
The Mediation Program helps students start to envision novel ways in which attorneys can help clients move beyond their disputes in creative, constructive and immensely satisfying ways.
The Mediation Program is under the direction of Professor Ellen Waldman: ellenw@tjsl.edu
