Thomas Jefferson students Andrea Carter and Branden Butler are the co-winners of this year’s Charles T. Bumer Civil Libertarian Award, presented by Professor Marjorie Cohn at the 2008 Barrister’s Ball. The annual award is named after the late “Ted” Bumer, who was a prominent San Diego criminal defense attorney and member of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG). The award is given to the TJSL student
who best personifies the ideals to which Bumer devoted his life.
The SBA-sponsored Barrister’s Ball event was held on the outdoor patio at the Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter and more than 400 TJSL students, faculty and staff attended.
For the second year in a row, Julie Garrett of Student Services was named Staff Person of the Year, and Professor Anders Kaye won the Golden Apple Award as faculty member of the year.
