Thomas Jefferson Professor Marjorie Cohn was in Washington, D.C., the weekend of November 2-4 for the National Lawyer’s Guild’s 70th convention.

Professor Cohn, who is President of the NLG, was presented with the National Lawyers Guild “Law for the People Award” at the event. Among her duties as NLG president were chairing the two plenary sessions as well as introducing Congressman John Conyers, the convention's keynote speaker.

During her time in Washington, Professor Cohn was extremely active, testifying before the House Judiciary Committee on torture; speaking at a continuing legal education seminar on the use of international law in domestic courts and moderating panels on the illegality of the Iraq war, as well as on saving habeas corpus and Guantanamo.

Professor Cohn’s book signing at Busboys and Poets was filmed by C-SPAN's Book TV, and will air on Sunday Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. Also while in Washington, Professor Cohn appeared on Amy Goodman's radio and TV program Democracy Now! and discussed the nomination of Michael Mukasey nomination for U.S. Attorney General.
