Legal Research Preparation & Analysis (SD 505)
Students participating in this class will conduct legal research and learn how to code and assemble that research into a form that can be combined with other researchers into a major project. The substance of the research will be retired Justice David Souter's U.S. Supreme Court opinions. Each student will be assigned a specific time period and will be responsible for finding, coding, summarizing, and analyzing each opinion written by Souter during that time period. Class will meet once each week, and class sessions will be conducted as project team meetings with each student making a progress report on his or her section of the overall project. Students will also receive instruction and critique of their legal writing skills. Students may register for 1 or 2 additional units of credit, which will be earned by covering a larger time period of Justice Souter's judicial career.
