TJSL Golf Tournament Raises Money for Veteran’s Legal Clinic
Proceeds go to Scholarships for Student Volunteers at Veterans Village
SAN DIEGO – Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s 12th Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament will raise money for the school’s Veteran’s Legal Assistance Clinic (VLAC). At the clinic, law student volunteers work with clients of the Veteran’s Village of San Diego (VVSD) to solve their civil legal problems at no cost, under the supervision of Thomas Jefferson professors.
The tournament will be held on Friday September 21, 2007 at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course.
The proceeds from the golf tournament will go to provide scholarships for the TJSL students who work at the clinic and provide legal services to the veterans.
For the first time, residents and alumni of Veteran’s Village have access to civil legal assistance on a regular basis. Thomas Jefferson’s students provide services to veterans struggling to regain full participation in society.
The VLAC began operation in the fall of 2006 and during its first year the clinic, directed by Professor Steve Berenson, successfully helped veterans deal with such issues as child support and visitation, government benefits, and more.
The golf tournament is open to all TJSL alumni and any golfers in the community who wish to participate in supporting the Veteran’s Legal Assistance Clinic.
Sponsors include Union Bank (a Master Sponsor) and Land America (a Gold Sponsor).
