Justice Carlos R. Moreno to Give Commencement Address

Justice Moreno Will Speak
To Thomas Jefferson School of Law Grads in Balboa Park
Saturday, May 8, 10:00 a.m.

The Honorable Carlos R. Moreno, Associate Justice for the California Supreme Court, will serve as commencement speaker for this year’s graduates of Thomas Jefferson School of Law. The ceremony will be held Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 a. m. at San Diego’s historic Balboa Park Organ Pavilion.

Justice Moreno was sworn in as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of California on October 18, 2001, following his nomination by Governor Gray Davis. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in political science from Yale in 1970, and his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1975. Prior to his appointment to the California Supreme Court, Justice Moreno served from 1998-2001 as a Judge of the United States District Court, Central District of California. He was appointed to this post by President Clinton. He served on the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1993- 1998. Justice Moreno has been active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the California Judges Association, the Presiding Judges Association and the County Bar Association. Since 1997, he has served on the board of the Arroyo Vista Family Health Center, a non-profit community health clinic providing care to lower income residents of northeast Los Angeles.

About 190 students are eligible to receive their juris doctor degrees at this year’s graduation ceremony, joining the law school’s more than 4,500 alumni.
