Dell Laptop Purchase Program
Thomas Jefferson School of Law has a laptop requirement for all incoming law students. To help you with the purchase of your laptop, we have established a laptop purchase program with Dell. As part of this program, our law school has negotiated discounted pricing on two models of the Dell Latitude laptop, which we recommend to you now.
To view the laptops and pricing structure, please visit www.dell.com/thomasjefferson. Just follow the prompts, and enter our special TJSL member number. You can further customize your laptop, through the Dell site. We are delighted to offer these models to you for your review, as they are terrific financial deals, and very robust machines.
As a TJSL law student there are benefits to ordering a Dell laptop rather than another brand of laptop. Theses benefits include:
- Each laptop comes with a three year limited warranty and a three year accidental damage warranty on the laptop that you purchase through this program.
- Our TJSL IT Department is a Dell Authorized Repair Center. This means that all warranty repair work can be accomplished on campus by our IT staff. If there is a problem that requires the replacement of hardware, Dell will ship those parts to us within 24 hours.
- All laptops come pre-installed with an academic version of Microsoft Office Suite, Symantec Anti-Virus software, and will be pre-configured with Internet shortcuts to the online legal resources provided/used by TJSL.
Your laptop will be shipped directly to the TJSL IT Department. The IT Department staff will inspect your laptop for proper functioning and notify you when it is available for pick-up. If you are coming from out of town, we will hold your laptop for you until you arrive in San Diego. If you decide to go with another brand of computer, that’s okay. TJSL will still provide you with a copy of Symantec Anti-Virus software for your Windows based laptops and will help you diagnose and solve problems with your laptop.
We do not recommend purchasing an Apple Macintosh, for a variety of reasons. The TJSL IT Department will not be able to provide you much support for your Mac, as it’s difficult to maintain a support infrastructure for both.
Additionally, ExamSoft, which is the software used to take your exams on a computer, is not compatible with Apple Macintosh computers. ExamSoft is used by TJSL and many other law schools nationwide, including many states’ bar examiners. The developers of ExamSoft have stated that they have no intention of ever developing a Mac compatible version of their software.
We look forward to providing you all the help and support you need to make an informed laptop purchase. If you have any questions regarding the Dell laptop purchase program, please contact the Client Services office in the TJSL IT Department at help@tjsl.edu In your email please include a cell phone number where you can be reached.
