Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor Aaron Schwabach has been selected to serve on the Law Peer Review Committee for the Fulbright Specialist Program during the 2011 review term.

As a peer reviewer, he will be reviewing applications for the Fulbright Specialist Program. The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at overseas academic institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks.

Professor Schwabach was selected to teach as a Fulbright Specialist at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China in 2006. One year later, TJSL established an annual summer study abroad program in Hangzhou that gives students an opportunity to take courses with Chinese students at Zhejiang University Guanghua College of Law.

“The Fulbright Specialist Program was a wonderful experience,” Professor Schwabach said. “I learned as much as I taught, if not more.”

The Fulbright Program provides scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists with a merit-based grant and an opportunity to study, research or teach in another country. The educational exchange program was founded by Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946 to increase cultural understanding between the United States and other countries. Currently, it operates in roughly 155 countries, where participants are afforded an opportunity to share their knowledge and skills with individuals of a different background. The Fulbright program remains one of the most prestigious award programs in the world.

TJSL Professor Richard Winchester also has been selected to be a Fulbright scholar beginning in January 2012. He will be teaching U.S. business law as a visiting professor on the Faculté des Sciences Juridiques, Politiques et Sociales at l’université de Carthage in Tunis, Tunisia. During his time there, Professor Winchester will help develop the school’s curriculum for a master’s program in Anglo-American commercial law as well.
