Professor Kevin J. Greene Speaks at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law

March 8, 2017

Last month, Thomas Jefferson School of Law Professor Kevin J. Greene, at the invitation of the Center for Intellectual Property at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, presented his work entitled, “Straight Outta’ Lawsuits: Hip-Hop Music and the Bane of Copyright Law” before an audience of faculty, attorneys and students as the IP Distinguished Lecturer.

In the presentation, Professor Greene explored the negative effects of copyright regulation on hip-hop as an art form, and related problems ranging from standards of infringement to copyright registration to prior African-American art forms like blues and jazz.

“This was really an amazing venue to present my work, which is part of a book project on hip-hop music and copyright law,” Greene remarked. “I’m grateful that Professor Xuan-Thao Nguyen, who is director of their center for intellectual property law and innovation, invited me.  According to the feedback from the audience, I’m told that this was considered the most fun talk ever.”
