Professor and Human Rights Activist William J. Aceves To Speak Here
William J. Aceves, a Professor of Law and Director of the International Legal Studies Program at California Western School of Law, will give a presentation titled, “Unlawful Combatants, POWs and All Things in Between” at Thomas Jefferson School of Law on Monday, March 20. His visit is sponsored by the Center for Global Legal Studies at Thomas Jefferson. The talk will take place in Room 201 of the Courtyard Building from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.
Aceves has published widely in the areas of human rights and international law and is the principal author of the 2002 Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) report, The United States: A Safe Haven for Torturers? He is presently the ombudsperson for the AIUSA, a grassroots activist organization that promotes all human rights. Aceves also serves on the local and national Boards of the American Civil Liberties Union and is a member of the Center for Justice and Accountability. He has represented several human rights organizations in cases before the federal courts and has appeared before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Migrants.
