SAN DIEGO — Mayoral Candidates Donna Frye and Jerry Sanders will make campaign stops at Thomas Jefferson School of Law to talk to students before the upcoming elections in November. The candidates also will take questions from the audience. City Councilwoman Donna Frye will speak this Thursday, September 22, 2005, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Former Police Chief Jerry Sanders will speak on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Both events are open to the public and will be held at Thomas Jefferson’s Courtyard Building in Room 200. Two TJSL student organizations, the Jefferson Law Republicans and the campus chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, are sponsoring the mayoral candidate events.

City Councilwoman Donna Frye, whose write-in candidacy for mayor last November has caused quite a political and legal stir, has represented District 6 for the last four years. She is an environmental activist and open government supporter. Former Police Chief Jerry Sanders served the San Diego Police Department for 26 years, the last six as Chief of Police. Since then, he has worked with United Way as its president and CEO and on the board for the Red Cross of San Diego-Imperial Counties.

New revelations about mismanagement of the city’s billions of dollars in real estate assets have created more ammunition for Sanders, who is highly critical of Frye and other city officials for San Diego’s ongoing financial crisis.

“We’re excited to have these two candidates on our campus and to hear their views as we get closer to voting day,” said TJSL Jefferson Law Republicans Chapter President Christopher Winslow.

Those who plan to attend must be seated prior to the scheduled starting time as doors will close promptly at that time with no further admittance. For more information about the “Meet the Mayoral Candidate” events, please contact Winslow at (858) 717-2131.
