NOVEMBER, 2003 The TJSL Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) team of Dan Dodds and Chris Saldana took first place in ABA Regional Negotiation Competition in Las Vegas. They triumphed over teams from USD, Hastings and BYU in the finals. The winning team will represent Region 9, Thomas Jefferson, and the ADR Team at the National ABA Negotiations Competition in San Antonio, Texas in February. The team of Shawn Huston and Karolyn Kaczorowski also did well, and Santa Clara. They did not move into the final round, but took sixth place overall. The victory was all the more remarkable because it was the first appearance at this competition. Additionally, preparations for the competition were badly disrupted by the recent devastating wildfires in San Diego County. Teamwork is one of the great strengths of the negotiation team, according to faculty advisor Paul Spiegelman. Not only the competitors made the trip, but the entire eleven-member team traveled to Las Vegas. The team: Karolyn Kaczorowski and Shawn Huston, Ellen Carncross, Nathan Chaney, Tamara Craft, James Pontes, Leila Reilly, Kim Reisman, Andy Thomasson, Dan Dodds and Chris Saldana. Thanks and acknowledgement also go to Professors Ellen Waldman, Randy Grossman, Steve Berenson, Kevin Greene, Maureen Markey, Judybeth Tropp, and Richard Winchester. Congratulations to all!
