Former United Nations Under-Secretary General and Chief Legal Counsel Hans Corell appeared Thomas Jefferson School of Law on November 14, 2006 to deliver an address titled: "U.N. Reform: Who Needs Reforming the Most - the U.N. or its Members?"
Corell feels that for the U.N. to succeed in its mission, it is imperative that the United States wholeheartedly support the U.N. Charter – especially as a founding member and key architect in the creation of the U.N.
Corell said that the United States invasion of Iraq in 2003 was “a clear violation of the U.N. Charter,” Corell said. –“The attack on Iraq did not meet the U.N. Charter’s two requirements for aggression against another sovereign nation: self-defense, and having the approval of the U.N. Security Council.”
