SAN DIEGO – The Student Bar Association of the Thomas Jefferson School of Law is hosting its third annual Red Cross Blood Drive for students, faculty and staff on Wednesday, September 20, in the new Student Lounge of the Courtyard Building, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Blood Drive co-chair Nichole Denton says the SBA recognizes the impact that one blood donation will have: “When people give blood only once it helps save three lives,” Nichole said. “As busy law students we often don't have as much time as we would like helping our communities, yet giving blood takes about an hour of your time. It is an easy way to make a big difference. Saving three lives in only one hour? How could you say you couldn't afford an hour of your time?”

SBA President Alexis Scott says the blood drive is just one of many community service projects the organization and Thomas Jefferson students will be involved in this school year: “The SBA will be working on social events, community service projects and networking opportunities throughout the next semester that will help enhance Thomas Jefferson students' legal education,” said Alexis. “The SBA's mission this year is to represent the students and the student organizations to the best of our ability -- to make Thomas Jefferson a cohesive community between students, faculty and staff."

Nichole Denton reminds the Thomas Jefferson community: “If you spend one hour giving blood and 15 minutes convincing two of your friends to give too, you could help save nine lives!”

Some facts about our region:

1. Just 3% of the population in Southern California donates blood.

2. 40% of blood needed to meet the needs of Southern California patients comes from other parts of the country.

3. Southern California needs to collect over 1,500 units of blood each day to meet patient needs.
