Stephanie Martin, a December 2005 Thomas Jefferson School of Law graduate, has been appointed as legal counsel for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 11 in San Diego.

Martin’s appointment follows the departure of long time Caltrans attorney Jeffrey Joseph, who recently joined Thomas Jefferson as an associate dean and general counsel.

Prior to attending Thomas Jefferson, Martin earned a BA in psychology from the University of California San Diego. While at Thomas Jefferson, Martin held judicial externships at the Federal District Court and San Diego Superior Court.

Martin began her new position at Caltrans on July 17 and will represent the state on cases ranging from accidents to eminent domain.

She is looking forward to the trial work she will do and feels the externships she did while at Thomas Jefferson allowed her to observe “every level of litigation.” Martin adds, “I’m very excited to put those observations into practice.”
