Entrance Counseling
Federal law requires that all recipients of any Federal Family Education Loan Program receive loan entrance counseling before initial loan proceeds can be disbursed. Entering students and continuing students who are first-time borrowers who are recipients of Federal Stafford, Graduate PLUS and/or Federal Perkins loans must complete the mandatory entrance counseling session at EdTest Loan Counseling. If students cannot access the EdTest Loan Counseling site, the Financial Aid Office has a computer workstation which can be used. The online session will contain information on the student borrower's rights and responsibilities. For entering students, additional entrance counseling is scheduled during orientation, which is held prior to the beginning of the fall semester.
Exit Counseling
Prior to graduation, less than half-time enrollment status and withdrawal from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, all students who borrowed from the Federal Family Education Loan program must attend exit counseling. Information regarding estimated monthly payments, repayment options, loan consolidation, deferment and forbearance options and other rights and responsibilities will be explained. Students will be contacted by the Financial Aid Office with details regarding exit counseling sessions. Perkins loan borrowers will receive information from the Business Office instructing them how to complete their exit counseling.
We strongly encourage participation in the group counseling session, but if you are unable to attend, this requirement may be satisfied online.
The Financial Aid Office offers exit counseling sessions to graduating students according to the following general schedule:
December graduates: early December
May graduates: late April
August graduates: mid July
