August 02, 2006 Garry Haehnle ('89). Thomas Jefferson School of Law alumnus Garry Haehnle is one of three San Diego public attorneys newly appointed as a Superior Court Commissioner by the judges on the Superior Court bench. “I am very thrilled by my appointment as a Superior Court Commissioner,” Haehnle said. “I feel honored to have been appointed by the judges of the Superior Court of San Diego, many of whom I appeared before in my 16-year career.” Haehnle, who graduated from Thomas Jefferson in 1989, has been a prosecutor with the San Diego County District Attorney’s office since 1990. During his time there he distinguished himself prosecuting child abuse cases, many of which were high-profile, newsworthy cases. He was appointed to the Governor’s Child Abduction Task Force and was the Supervising Attorney in the DA’s Child Abduction Unit and also prosecuted domestic violence cases, and homicide. Haehnle’s last assignment was as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Asset Forfeiture Division handling cases involving seized property used for drug trafficking. Prior to that he served six months as a specially appointed Deputy Attorney General, in the Asset Forfeiture Division working on cases involving seized property used for drug trafficking. And before that he served six months as a Specially Appointed Deputy Attorney General, arguing cases in the 4th District California Court of Appeals, the Ninth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court. Superior Court Commissioners hear traffic and certain misdemeanor cases, and Haehnle and the two other attorneys appointed will begin their new assignments in early August. Presiding Superior Court Judge Janis Sammartino said, “Court Commissioners serve a very important role in the Court, handling cases in some of our busiest courtrooms.” We are so very pleased to have these three highly experienced litigators joining us.”
