TJSL’s Student Veterans Salute “Beer on the Pier” Tradition

January 27, 2012

The Student Veterans of America warmly opened the doors and welcomed in the Veterans Bar Association for an old Navy tradition of “Beer on the Pier.” The history of beer on the pier comes from the days that Sailors and Marines would indulge in a beer or two on the pier when the ship was pulled in to port. Sometimes a beer on the pier would be the only way for the ship’s crew to enjoy some rest and relaxation before getting underway again.

Without a ship, a port, a pier and a seaworthy crew the Student Veterans of America revamped this old tradition in TJSL’s 8th floor conference room on Tuesday, January 24. The new rendition catered to the networking and mentoring needs of both student veterans and attorney veterans.

A majority of the Veterans Bar Association members that attended the event are also Thomas Jefferson School of Law Alumni, including Philip Shapiro, who serves on the TJSL alumni board.

This event presented students an opportunity to network with attorneys in the San Diego area. The SVA looks forward to hosting more events with the Veterans Bar Association.”
