Thomas Jefferson Leadership Council Program
The Thomas Jefferson Leadership Council (TJLC) is a program which recognizes and encourages outstanding academic achievement of both incoming and continuing students at the Law School. Students within the Council are considered TJLC Students. The TJLC Program is designed to enrich the law school experience by promoting both academic excellence and leadership of high achieving students. Development of these traits is expected to enhance the students’ overall profile upon graduation and the intellectual community at the Law School
TJLC students have unique opportunities to learn from local leaders. TJLC students participate in activities throughout the year, including leadership seminars with prominent San Diego lawyers focusing on hot-topics and cutting-edge legal issues. TJLC students are also invited to attend various networking dinners, receptions and lunches with faculty, alumni and senior administrators at the Law School. Additionally, TJLC students participate in special events. These events focus on leadership, professionalism and development. Upon graduation, students who successfully complete the Program will receive both a certificate and an honors cord representing their involvement in the Program.

Entering Student Guaranteed Merit Awards
All incoming TJLC students receive an Entering Student Merit Scholarship. Entering student merit scholarships offer first-time entering students an award based on the student’s highest LSAT score and undergraduate grade point average (UGPA), as calculated by LSAC. Students are automatically awarded scholarships based on information in their application. The dollar amount represents the total yearly award. Scholarships are guaranteed to be renewed for the second and third years as long as the student is eligible to remain enrolled. TJLC students may also be eligible for additional need-based aid, for a total financial aid package valued up to the total cost of attendance as described in the Student Budget.
The President’s Award
The President’s Award is the highest entering student merit award given by the Law School to entering students who have shown exemplary academic achievement as evidenced by their LSAT and UGPA. The President’s Award provides a guaranteed full tuition scholarship, applied equally to the fall and spring tuition, as well as a monthly housing grant* of $1,350 for the first year. The full tuition scholarship renews automatically each year and is guaranteed as long as the student is eligible to remain enrolled.
*Housing grants are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Housing grants have no cash value and are applied automatically each month to the student’s account. Housing grants are applied August 1 – July 31 for students who begin in the fall, and January 1 – December 31 for students who begin in the spring. Unused housing grants cannot be added to tuition scholarships to increase the value of the tuition scholarship.
The Dean’s Award is a guaranteed entering full tuition scholarship, and is given to incoming students who have shown outstanding academic performance as evidenced by their LSAT and UGPA. The Dean’s award renews automatically each year, is applied equally to the fall and spring tuition, and is guaranteed as long as the student is eligible to remain enrolled.
