Professor Schumacher (Pangan) was a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) and San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP).  As a staff attorney, she supervised court-based legal clinics handling domestic violence, civil harassment, elder abuse, and unlawful detainer (evictions) where she assisted self-represented litigants and recruited and trained volunteers.  She conducted family law mediations at SDVLP.  Professor Schumacher has been working in public interest first as a volunteer and then staff attorney since 2003.  She was also the first female co-editor of San Diego Lawyer Magazine where she served on the editorial board for about 20 years.

She is currently the Pro Bono Program Manager and managing attorney on the Pro Bono Team at the Legal Aid Society of San Diego where she supervises pro bono attorneys who take cases and a team of staff attorneys and volunteers at legal clinics around the county.  She has been teaching Public Interest Lawyering at TJSL since 2018.

She has served on several boards and was a 2020 San Diego Business Journal Leaders in Law Finalist.
