Professor Aste is an Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting civil enforcement actions on behalf of the United Sates. Professor Aste has served in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California since 2014, and he is his Office’s Opioid Coordinator and Chair of the Diversity Committee.  Professor Aste specializes in the areas of opioids abuses, fraud against the Government, and civil rights violations. For his civil rights work, he has twice received the U.S. Department of Justice’s Certificate of Commendation.

Professor Aste is the 2022 President of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter, and he is a member of the USD School of Law Alumni Board of Directors.   Professor Aste’s awards and recognition include USD Law’s Rising Star Recent Alumni Award (2021), FBA’s national Younger Federal Lawyer Award (2020), San Diego Metro Magazine’s “40 Under 40” (2020), and SDSU’s Rising Aztec Award (2019).
