Professor Rebecca Church is a trial attorney practicing civil defense law. She has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California defending the United States, its agencies, and its employees in suits brought pursuant to the Federal Tort Claims Act, Bivens, Title VII, and immigration law. Professor Church has also served as an Ethics Advisor and Professional Responsibility Officer and FOIA Attorney. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Professor Church was an Associate Attorney at Duane Morris LLP, a global law firm, where she practiced in the commercial and employment groups. She served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Hon. District Judge William Q. Hayes and the Hon. Magistrate Judge Ruben B. Brooks in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. She serves as a Temporary Judge (Pro Tem) for the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, hearing small claims cases. Professor Church is the 2021 President of the Federal Bar Association, San Diego Chapter. She serves as a Lawyer Representative to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.  She is also a member of Lawyers Club of San Diego and the San Diego County Bar Association.
