As a lead trial litigator and a managing partner of Huston | McCaffrey, Mr. Huston was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of California in 2004 and is also admitted to all four federal United States District Courts of California. He is active in the community and is on the board of directors for the San Diego County Bar Association and Tom Homann LGBT law association of San Diego. Mr. Huston was a deputy district attorney in Madera County for several years before returning to his home town of San Diego to start his own firm with his partner, Kelly McCaffrey Combs.
Subsequently, Mr. Huston worked as a senior associate to several law firms in San Diego. He continues to practice criminal law and is an active attorney with San Diego County’s Office of Assigned Counsel. He has broadened his expertise in the civil arena by becoming proficient in civil litigation and is a certified mediator. He also represents business and business owners in corporate and civil litigation. To date, Mr. Huston has taken over ten cases to jury with favorable results.
Mr. Huston is a leading animal law attorney, focusing on animal bites, negligence, ownership issues, animal control administrative hearings, and ADA discrimination cases related to service animals. He has been on the executive committee for the Animal Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association for at least five years. Mr. Huston was the Chair of the 2019 Animal Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association, and he has lectured on several subjects on a variety of subjects and has successfully appealed and argued cases on appeal (i.e. Andrews v. Metropolitan Transit System (2022) 74 Cal.App.5th 597, 597 [289 Cal.Rptr.3d 728].)
