LSRJ Made Huge Strides for the American Cancer Society
October 28, 2013
By Cristina Kinsella (3L)
On Sunday, October 20, 2013, several members of TJSL’s Law Student’s for Reproductive Justice chapter gathered at Balboa Park in the early hours of the morning. Though the fog was just lifting, thousands of people dressed in pink were milling around the park for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Every year, LSRJ gets a team together and walks to support breast cancer awareness with the American Cancer Society.
This year LSRJ far surpassed it’s fundraising goal, and raising $1,695 for Making Strides of San Diego! Carly Surber, 3L, brought in $1,000 in donations for the LSRJ team! On Sunday, Tara Almazan Mallis (3L), Cris Kinsella (3L), Erin Panichkul (2L), Rachelle Sanchez (2L), Liz Focht (2L), Carly Surber (3L), and Samantha Morales (3L) all walked the 3.6 mile walk with over 30,000 others. The San Diego Making Strides walk raised $827,337 in total.
The money raised by the LSRJ team goes to the American Cancer Society to help educated people on how to get screened for breast cancer, to support people who have been diagnosed and are fighting breast cancer, and to fund research that will help end the fight against breast cancer. LSRJ would like to thank all of it’s supporters in the TJSL community, including our team members who helped raise money for such an important cause.
The Making Strides website will be open until December 31, 2013 if you would still like to donate. October may be Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but you can support breast cancer awareness anytime! To donate, visit the LSRJ team page.
