Naomi Butler (3L) Receives the 2018 TJSL Women and the Law Project Appreciation Award
December 4, 2018
Congratulations to 3L Naomi Butler, who has been selected for the 2018 Thomas Jefferson School of Law Women and the Law Project Appreciation Award. This is a new award, which will be presented to Naomi at the Lawyers Club Fund for Justice Holiday Luncheon on Thursday, December 13. The award amount is $500.
The award was made possible in large part through the generous donation of Thomas Jefferson alumna Helen Rowe (’80), who is a past president of Lawyers Club. Naomi was selected for her work last year on behalf of the Women and the Law Conference. “Naomi’s role in organizing and directing our student volunteers at the conference was invaluable. This is our way of saying thank you,” said Associate Dean Susan Bisom-Rapp, one of the three founders of the Women and the Law Project.
Naomi noted, “Professors Bisom-Rapp, Lilys McCoy, Leigh Inman, Steve Semeraro, Assistant Dean Lisa Ferreira, and many others have been a constant support to me on my journey through law school. I consider myself very lucky to have found a school that believed in me and my ability to succeed.”
Throughout law school, Naomi has served in a number of leadership roles. Last year, she was editor-in-chief of the law school newspaper, The Jeffersonian. She also served as the coordinator for the school’s Small Claims Workshop, which helps litigants prepare for Small Claims Court. She was also the vice president of OUTLaw. This academic year, she serves as president of the Student Bar Association and as the school’s student representative for Westlaw. After law school, she hopes to practice Family Law and work for the cause of juvenile justice more generally.
