PILF Auction is a Major Success!
April 8, 2013
You couldn’t miss the PILF members and volunteers at the Annual PILF Auction on Friday evening, April 5. They were all wearing fedoras with feathers in keeping with the theme: “SPEAKEASY: BID OFTEN.”
And bid often they did!
“We raised more than $17,000.00 this year!” said PILF (Public Interest Law Foundation) President Kelly Hayes 3L. “We have not only topped last year’s auction, but we also topped the year before.”
As the Mission High School Jazz Band played, the auction guests placed their bids at the silent auction tables. The second floor lobby tables were deck-out with items ranging from a basketball signed by Lakers star Metta World Peace, to wine baskets, handmade quilts, and books by the prolific authors that are TJSL faculty members.
Professor Thomas Golden handled the live auction again this year, with some wonderful items including Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm tickets as well as a beautiful Taylor electric guitar. The Taylor went for $700!
During the event, Kelly Hayes looked around and was pleased with the great turnout!
“I could not have made this event happen without my PILF Board members and my extremely dedicated PILF members,” said Hayes. “Our sales are obviously an indication of all of our hard work. This money will be used to pay off our expenses, and what’s left will be used as PILF scholarships for our hardworking members who have public interest jobs over the summer. Our Board has also decided to set aside $1,000 so two students can attend this year’s Equal Justice Conference, during the fall term, in Washington, D.C.”
Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s Public Interest Law Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness among legal professionals about the value of making a commitment to public service legal work. And the annual auction goes a long way toward helping PILF fulfill its mission.
“I am just amazed at how much support we have had from the faculty, the administration and the entire TJSL family,” according to Hayes.
“We are very grateful to each and every one of them, for making this year’s PILF Auction not only a huge success, but also a major achievement for all of us! It was obvious that everyone enjoyed their time at PILF’s: ‘SPEAKEASY. BID OFTEN!’”
