Professor Bisom-Rapp to Travel to Italy
February 13, 2014
Professor Susan Bisom-Rapp will travel to Modena, Italy over spring break in March. She will be involved in meetings and events at the University of Modena’s Marco Biagi Foundation (MBF) from March 17th – 19th. “This is my eighth consecutive trip to Modena for the annual comparative labor law conference in honor of the late Professor Marco Biagi,” she noted.
Before the conference events begin, Professor Bisom-Rapp will teach a two-hour workshop to MBF Ph.D. students. Her topic is “Equal Employment Opportunity Law in Common Law Countries: The U.S. and the U.K. and the Lessons of Social Science.” “This lecture is an updated version of the session I taught at the University of Milan’s School of Law last March,” said Professor Bisom-Rapp.
Professor Bisom-Rapp will also be a commentator at the MBF’s annual Young Scholars’ Workshop, which brings together Ph.D. students from around the world. This year’s half-day event features eight papers, which will be presented by student authors attending doctoral programs, including those at the University of Cambridge (U.K.), Cornell University (U.S.), Oxford University (U.K.), the University of Zurich (Switzerland), the University of Modena (Italy), and Eotvos Lorand University of Sciences (Hungary).
Professor Bisom-Rapp collaborated with professors at the University of Modena to organize this event.
At this year’s comparative labor law conference, Professor Bisom-Rapp is serving as the chair of a panel featuring professors from Germany, Russia, South Africa, Ireland, Italy, and Brazil. The panel papers cover topics dealing with unions, declining job security, and new forms of social protection for those who lose their jobs.
Finally, while in Modena, Professor Bisom-Rapp will attend a meeting of the MBF’s international council, on which she serves. The council discusses curricular issues related to MBF’s Ph.D. program.
