SBA Holds Debt Seminar for Students
October 20, 2010
The Student Bar Association of Thomas Jefferson School of Law First Annual Debt Seminar: “How to Manage Your Money & Debt by GL Advisors”
By Nancy Astifo, Student Bar Association, Treasurer (2010-2011)
The Student Bar Association of Thomas Jefferson School of Law presented a “Manage Your Money and Debt” session on financial best practices for law students by Cornel Catrina of GL Advisor, on Thursday, October 14. Mr. Catrina provided information and strategies on managing your debt as a graduate law student.
The session provided students with information on their debt portfolios and informed them of the options available to consolidate their debt while enrolled in school. Catrina also informed the students of federal loan forgiveness programs available after graduation. The loan forgiveness programs are contingent on income and working in public service or in firms.
The Student Bar Association (SBA) encouraged the need for this session because many students are not aware of how loans and debts are processed and paid back. Lastly, GL Advisor offered students a more in depth analysis of their debt if the student chose to provide their information. Many of the attendees expressed appreciation for holding the seminar. The SBA will hold a seminar in the spring and hope to have a similar program included in orientation and before graduation.
