TJSL Makes Great Showing at Tom Homman LGBT Law Association Gala
May 22, 2012
A great time was had by Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL) students, staff, and faculty who attended the May 10 annual dinner of the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association (THLA), San Diego County’s bar association focused on promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights and professional opportunities for LGBT law students and attorneys.
Federal Judge Virginia Phillips of the U.S. District Court in Riverside, California, gave the compelling keynote speech, describing the harassment and death threats she and her court staff faced following her historic 2010 ruling striking down the military’s antigay “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy (which was later repealed by Congress and President Obama).
TJSL filled up two full tables at the dinner, the best representation of any area law school. The tables were sponsored by TJSL’s OutLaw student organization, Professors Bryan H. Wildenthal and Julie Greenberg (OutLaw faculty advisors), and contributions from all those who attended.
TJSL student and OutLaw Co-President Jason Woltman received one of two merit-based scholarships awarded by THLA.
Those in attendance included OutLaw members, allies and friends among TJSL students, staff, and alumni, and their guests.
