Jeremy M. Evans is the Managing Attorney of the California Sports Lawyer firm, representing sports and entertainment professionals in contract drafting, negotiations, licensing and career growth.  Jeremy provides legal advice and general counsel services for businesses, which includes development, document and agreement drafting, review, negotiations, protection and compliance.  He is a “Finalist and Winner” (1 of 10 attorneys out of 400 nominations) for the “San Diego County Outstanding Young Attorney for 2013!” award, as nominated by his peers through The Daily Transcript.  He was voted by his peers as a Finalist and Winner for the “Top Attorney Award 2014” in the Corporate Transactional category (1 of 10 attorneys out of 900 nominations), as well as a Semi-Finalist in the Intellectual Property Transactional catergory, presented by The Daily Transcript.  In addition, he was nominated by his peers for the “Best of the Bar 2014 for Sports & Entertainment Law,” presented by the San Diego Business Journal. He was also named to the San Diego Super Lawyers (Rising Stars) for 2015.

 

Evans is also the Director of the Center for Sports Law & Policy (CSLP) at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, CA, where he currently resides.  The CSLP is a Fellowship with 80+ law student Fellows, who must complete a rigorous educational and career-based sports law program to earn a Certificate in Sports Law & Policy upon graduation.  Every September, the CSLP hosts the National Sports Law Negotiation Competition (NSLNC), a nationally recognized sports law competition and conference.  Evans is the Founder and Director of the NSLNC.

 

He attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, emphasis in American Politics. He earned his law degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he served as President of the Student Bar Association, and Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper, The Jeffersonian.  He was presented with the “Member of the Year Award” as Vice President of the Student Bar Association (2010) and the “Service & Commitment Award” as President of the Student Bar Association (2011).  While in law school, he competed three times in the National Baseball Arbitration Competition (NBAC), held in New Orleans, LA.  He is the now the Coach for the NBAC Competition Team from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, which won the Championship in 2012.

 

After graduation from law school, Evans was elected to the Alumni Association Board of Directors for Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2012.  He was elected President of the organization for the 2014-2015 term.  He has also been elected and served as Vice President (2013-2014) and Chair of the following Committees: Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament benefiting the Veterans Clinic, Bylaws & Election, and Alumni Outreach.  Evans was recently presented with the “2014 A. Thomas Golden Honorary Alumnus of the Year Award” as selected by Thomas Jefferson School of Law alumni, students, faculty, and staff.

 

Evans is a leader in the community and is actively involved with several organizations.  He was elected as the Vice Chair of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA) (2013-2014) and Chair for 2014-2015.  He was elected to the SDCBA New Lawyers Division Board of Directors (2012-2014), and is the co-chair of the Career Development Committee (2013-2014), and is the former co-chair of the Minimum Continuing Legal Education committee (2012-2013).  He is the Director of the SDCBA Diversity Fellowship Program, which places diverse first-year law students with the top corporate and legal employers in San Diego.  He is also on the Editorial Staff and is a Contributor for the San Diego Lawyer Magazine.  He is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, Entertainment and Sports Law Interest Group—Intellectual Property Law Section of the State Bar of California, San Diego County Bar Association, and the San Diego Entertainment & Sports Lawyers.

 

Prior to opening the California Sports Lawyer firm, Evans worked as a Graduate Law Clerk with the Superior Court of California, County of San Diego, Central Division, advising Judicial Officers in civil and criminal law and motion.  During law school, he interned for the Office of the Public Defender for the County of San Diego and a constitutional litigation firm, where he had the opportunity to assist in drafting several U.S. Supreme Court briefs.  Prior to law school, he worked in finance for the number one business-only litigation firm in the world, Quinn Emanuel Uquhart & Sullivan LLP, in Los Angeles, CA.  Prior to that, he worked as a legislative aide and field representative for California State Senator George Runner, 17th District (Ret.).  In 2013, Evans earned a Certificate from the National Institute of Politics as a Certified Political Consultant-Campaign Manager, and has assisted with some local campaigns in San Diego.

 

Jeremy M. Evans is a member of the State Bar of California and is licensed to practice law before all courts in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.  Evans is also licensed as in-house counsel for a commodities company in the State of Arizona, pursuant to Supreme Court rule 38(i)(3).
