New TJSL Attorneys Being Sworn In
June 1, 2011
“It’s amazing! This is what we’ve all been waiting for,” said Lindsay Van Housen ’10.
“I’m proud to say that I passed on my first try,” said Deborah Cochran ’10.
The wife of Bar passer Daniel Hall ’10, who is also an attorney, summed it up perfectly by describing the feeling of the day as “PTBD – Post Traumatic Bar Disorder – which means you know that you’ve passed but you are not able to process it yet.”
These are the feelings of several Thomas Jefferson School of Law graduates and their family members moments before being sworn into the California and Federal bars by panels of judges from both the California Fourth District Court of Appeal and the U.S. District Court of Southern California.
“Please don’t allow the significance of this day to pass you by,” said Dean Eric Mitnick in congratulating the TJSL Bar passers. “This is the other side of the journey for you.”
Danial Castaneda ‘10 is excited to say that he has a job already! “I started interning with TJSL alumnus Ruben Arizmendi ‘81 at his law firm when I first started at TJSL,” Casteneda said. “And now I am thrilled to say that I have passed the bar, I am officially being sworn in, and I have an amazing job!”
Sarah McElroy ’10, had some words of encouragement for her friend, bar passer Rosanna Kendrick. “Don’t worry about getting a job,” McElroy said. “It only took me four months after passing the bar to get a great job in San Diego. You are amazing and you are going to do great!”
The new lawyers, who passed the California Bar Exam administered in February, were all honored at the law school’s New Attorney Breakfast on Wednesday, June 1, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island.
Congratulations to all of TJSL’s newest lawyers!
