“This is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Dean Rudy Hasl, as he welcomed everyone to the Honors Ceremony on March 7. “It is our opportunity to congratulate each of you for your work this past semester.”

The students named to the Distinguished Honor Roll and Honor roll for their achievements in the Fall 2011 semester were given certificates and photographed with the Dean, many with family members at their side.

“We know what it takes to be here,” said Dean Hasl. “It takes a lot of work, effort and sacrifice.”

“It is a lot of hard work and discipline,” said 1L Adrianna Andreini on what it took to make the Distinguished Honor Roll. “It took a lot of dedication, and realizing that it’s not just knowing the facts, but understanding the material.”

“It’s not studying harder, but studying smarter,” 1L Samantha Birkner said on what it took for her to make the Honor Roll.

“It feels good to know you worked toward something and achieved it,” said 2L Kevin Kampschror, who is on the Distinguished Honor Roll.

For 1L Rachel King, making the Distinguished Honor Roll meant not only success in the classroom, but the balancing act of raising two children, one-year-old Adam and seven-year old Kaya.

How does she do it?

“I focus very, very hard on law school for short periods of time, and then I go play with my kids,” King said. Her husband Dan Olzko and son Adam were at her side when she shook hands with the Dean.  “I couldn’t do it without my family,” King said of her success.”

“I’m so proud of all of you,” said Student Services Director Lisa Ferreira to the honor roll students. “Life is busy and life is hard.”

For his part, Dean Hasl feels the honorees are “key players in what becomes the reputation of this institution.” And he sees a bright future for both the law school and the honor students. “You have extraordinary potential – you will achieve great things.”
