TJSL Students Experience International Legal Education in Nice, France

June 10, 2026

Twenty Thomas Jefferson School of Law students from both the residential and Online J.D. programs, along with two French students, participated in the law school’s summer study abroad program in Nice, France this year. Held in partnership with Université Côte d’Azur, the program provided students with a unique opportunity to earn up to four academic credits while studying international legal topics on the French Riviera.

For more than 30 years, TJSL’s Nice Study Abroad Program has offered students an immersive academic and cultural experience that many alumni describe as one of the most memorable parts of their law school journey.

This summer’s curriculum featured courses taught by an accomplished group of legal practitioners and scholars. Deputy District Attorneys and Adjunct Professors Cal Logan and Shawn Tafreshi taught European Union Law and International Criminal Law, respectively. French Professor Giulio Caesar Giorgini taught International Business Transactions, while Randy Grossman led the International Sports Law course. The internationally focused coursework encouraged students to compare American and European legal systems while developing a broader understanding of global legal issues.

In addition to their classroom studies, students gained firsthand exposure to the French legal system by attending a criminal trial at the courthouse in Nice. They also participated in a field trip to a local museum and explored the rich history and culture of the region.

Outside of class, students embraced life in southern France. The group’s annual scooter excursion to Monaco once again proved to be a highlight of the program. During three-day weekends, students traveled throughout Europe, visiting destinations including London, Paris, and Rome. Along the way, they enjoyed local cuisine, experienced French culture, and built lasting friendships with classmates and international peers.

While the program offered countless opportunities for travel and cultural exploration, students remained committed to their academic studies, balancing rigorous coursework with their international experiences.

The continued success of the Nice Study Abroad Program reflects TJSL’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to broaden their legal education through global engagement. As another memorable summer comes to a close, participants return home with new perspectives, valuable academic experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
