Adjunct Professor Paul Liu teaches in the areas of patent and intellectual property law and is a Law School Faculty Clinic Supervisor at the USPTO Law School Clinic Certification Program in San Diego hosted by the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Professor Liu is also the Head of Intellectual Property at TuSimple, a global self-driving truck (e.g., autonomous vehicle) company. At TuSimple, he oversees a team of professionals to align the company’s intellectual property with the business to obtain proactive, high impact, and creative protection via patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights. He has over a decade of experience as a subject matter expert for intellectual property assets associated with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science technologies.
Prior to teaching at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Professor Liu has taught in intellectual property law related courses in the College of Engineering at the University of California at Davis. He has also spoken at in-house corporate events and educational seminars on topics related to intellectual property and patent law.
Professor Liu enjoys being involved in the local community. He has served as a past board member of the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego. He has also helped organize numerous local bar association events that bring students together with attorneys in the local bench and bar.
